Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?

basics;
FULL NAME: Penny Lane Weller
NICKNAME: Friends call her Pen, that's about it. And she's called "Miss" so much that it might as well count as a nickname.
BIRTHDAY: March 30th, 1987
ASTROLOGICAL SIGN: Aries, but who really cares?
HEIGHT: 5'4
BUILD: Skinny with some curves.
SCARS: None.
DISTINCT PHYSICAL FEATURES: Nothing remarkably distinct. She'll point out that she has a pretty great butt, however.
PERSONAL STYLE: Because she has to wear a uniform all the time for work, and it's one that's fairly formal, she tends to go casual for her everyday wear, but likes to put as much personality in as possible to make up for the navy blue suit she wears most days. She can usually be found in jeans, a tee with some kind of cute design or saying on it, and canvas slides. Her style hasn't changed much since high school. If she's going out, however, she dolls herself all up. Half of her closet is cute dresses and tops and tight pants for clubbing.
ALLERGIES: None.
PETS: None, which she misses. She couldn't regularly take care of a pet with her work schedule, and their building doesn't allow them.
RELIGION: Religion was never a huge part of Penny's life, she was Christian, and went to the Methodist church in Stoneybrook with her grandparents now and then. When she moved to Boston, however, in an attempt to meet people, she started going to the contemporary Christian church down the street from her uncle's apartment, and loved it. While she's still not overly religious, she enjoys going to church services, and has found a similar church in New York. She attends when she can, her work schedule doesn't allow for going to church on a regular basis, and sings sometimes in the chorus or a small ensemble. She hasn't gone all Julie Stern or Ross Brown about it though. She just goes to services as long as she's in town and not hungover.

depth;
OCCUPATION: Flight attendant
RESIDENCE: Apt 708 in Chelsea. It's a three-bedroom that she shares with Sheila and her husband. She could never really afford the apartment, so she loves Sheila for letting her live there and not caring that she's not paying anywhere near a real share of the rent.
FRIENDS: Sheila, Heather, Andi, TBD
ENEMIES: TBD
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Single and looking!
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Straight
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND ACTIVITIES: None, unless you count being a frequent patron to a lot of different nightclubs.
CHARACTER CONCEPT: The Fun-Loving Jet-Setter
FIVE ADJECTIVES TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF: Energetic, friendly, outgoing, eager to please, flirty

personality;
As Penny learned not long after setting foot on campus at the start of freshman year, who you were in high school doesn't matter one bit. No one at UConn cared that she'd been a cheerleader and one of the most popular girls at her high school. She was just another girl on campus. So why, she wondered, had she spent so much time in high school worrying about her social status?

So she quit worrying. And once she moved to Boston, she finally decided to let herself live. Who cared if the guy she hooked up with a club was kind of a loser? He was a good kisser and he bought her drinks all night! And honestly, why does it matter that she prefers cheap jewelry or clothes from a vintage store? She looks good, she feels good, and it's not like she's destined for "What Not To Wear". Like they say in that really awesome song, don't worry, be happy.

Sure, she may not have a college degree like most of her friends. And she may have never been in love, again, like most of her friends. And yeah, maybe now and then that gets to her, usually when she's had a few drinks and hasn't found a guy to make out with and ends up moping at the bar.

The past few years, she's decided that it's best to be optimistic and upbeat. No one wants to hear her moaning about how she's never been in love, how she's convinced that if one of her planes got hijacked that she'd forget all her training and just curl into a ball and cry, or that she worries each day about her grandparents getting older. All that stuff's a total buzzkill. Upbeat and peppy is where it's at.

So, most of the time? She doesn't let herself stress over anything. Because, really, who cares anymore? High school is so over.

STRENGTHS: Very eager to please people, friendly, energetic
WEAKNESSES: She's a little ditzy, can sometimes be pretty shallow, and while she swears she was really nice to everyone in high school, there's a slim chance of her actually recognizing anyone who she didn't associate with back then.

family;
John Weller, grandad. Well past retirement age but never plans to retire. He runs a successful sports bar/restaurant just outside of Stoneybrook with his best friend.

Elizabeth Weller, grandma. Retired a couple of years ago from her long-time position as an office manager at a podiatrist's office. She's now working part-time at the church nursery. Her quiet demeanor is the exact opposite of her husband's youthful exuberance, which is what's kept them having such a great marriage. They're coming up on their fiftieth anniversary this year.

Mitch Weller, uncle. While Penny doesn't have an actual father to speak of, she's felt lucky to have two really great father figures in her life. Her grandad raised her, but Mitch has always been there for her. He's a pilot with the same airline as Penny and even though he's in Boston, they've still ended up on some flights together ever since she transferred to New York. He's a bachelor, has never even come close to being married, and is known as quite the playboy.

Melissa Weller, mother. Penny doesn't know her at all. She ran off when Penny was just a few months old, and the family hasn't heard much from her since. She's heard a few stories about what her mom was like as a teenager, that she was a total wild child and ended up dropping out of school and running away, but other than that, she doesn't know much. All she knows of her father, Christopher Newberg, is that he was her mom's boyfriend, and she's got a picture of him. She doesn't worry herself over her mom or dad because she's got a good enough family otherwise.

history;
While she was practically royalty at SHS, that same admiration didn't carry on to college. Instead, Penny felt herself disappear. She was one of thousands on campus, she had a roommate who she didn't get along with, and she wasn't getting the hang of classes now that they were so much harder. She knew she should pick a major, but couldn't find anything she cared enough about. She rushed sororities, but didn't receive a bid. She tried out some campus activities, to see if she could find her niche, but never found anything that interested her. And without cheerleading, tennis, and friends to go out jogging or dancing with, she started gaining weight. She kept telling herself that she was in a new place and with new people, and that it would take time to feel comfortable and be happy.

She came home the summer after freshman year, fifteen pounds heavier than when she'd started off the year. That summer was spent hanging out with her friends from high school, who talked on and on about how much they loved college, and she tried her best to fake it along with them. She returned to Storrs in the fall feeling more miserable than ever. After failing a midterm and realizing that she had no shot at even passing that class, she made the decision to leave once the semester was over.

She returned home, and started up waitressing again at her grandpa's sports bar. But with all her friends off at college, and really just the social rejects of SHS left in town, she felt lonely. Who was she going to hang out with, Mia Pappas and her kid? She just went to work, came home, and didn't really go out much. Her uncle picked up on this loneliness, and made a suggestion. He told her that his airline was hiring for flight attendants, based out of his airport, and that he'd put in a good word for her. Without putting even a moment's thought into it, she applied, got interviewed, and was hired. She moved to Boston, where her uncle let her live in his guest room and she started her new life jetting around the country.

Her outgoing personality, bubbly attitude, and desire to please people made her a natural fit for the job, and she quickly fell in love with it. She enjoyed the craziness of her life, living out of a suitcase all the time, staing in hotels, and even the unexpected things that came up, such as being stuck in cities due to blizzards or hurricanes, being rerouted, and dealing with crazy passengers. After a couple of years, however, she wanted a change. Not in the job, she still loved that, just in location. As much as she loved her uncle, she knew that she couldn't live under his thumb forever. She was tired of always being known as "Mitch's niece", tired of knowing which of her fellow flight attendants had slept with him, and tired of feeling like she was cramping his style by living with him.

Her opportunity came when she got accepted for a transfer to LaGuardia, and so, after two years in Boston, she made the move to New York City. Sheila, who had become one of her closest friends over the years, gladly offered her a place at her apartment, and Penny was more than glad to give her some company since her fiance was gone so much. She's been living it up in the city, knowing just what night of the week to go to what club for the best drink specials, and bouncing from guy to guy. Maybe one day she'll let herself settle down and find a steady relationship, but not yet. She's having too much fun.

COLLEGE ATTENDED: University of Connecticut, but only for three semesters.
MAJOR/DEGREE: none
ACTIVITIES AND HONORS: none
WORK EXPERIENCE: Hostess and waitress at Playoffs since she was sixteen, three miserable weeks at the checkout desk at the UConn library, and now a flight attendant for Delta Airlines.

incidentals;
FIRST KISS: Malik Jaffrey, in a spin-the-bottle game in 7th grade.
FIRST SEXUAL ENCOUNTER: Probably stuff her and Alex did, sometime in ninth.
FIRST SEXUAL INTERCOURSE: Malik again, after the homecoming dance in 10th grade.

FAVORITE BOOK: The Shopaholic series

FAVORITE MOVIE: Wizard of Oz, Rent, Mean Girls
FAVORITE COLOR: Orange
FAVORITE FLAVOR: Lemon
FAVORITE FOOD: Bar food, like mozzerella sticks or buffalo wings.
FAVORITE PLACE: Miami, particularly South Beach. She got to spend the night there on one of her first flights, and was blown away by how awesome the city was. She's made a couple of visits there since.

DISLIKED BOOK: Wizard of Oz. The movie was so much better.
DISLIKED MUSIC: Current stuff. It kinda sucks.
DISLIKED MOVIE: Anything scary. She refuses to watch them and will end up with nightmares if she does.
DISLIKED COLOR: None, all colors look cool at some point.
DISLIKED FLAVOR: Fake chocolate, like chocolate Tootsie pops.
DISLIKED FOOD: All this light healthy organic stuff.
DISLIKED PLACE: Anywhere outside during the winter. She's not into the whole cold weather thing.

LIKES: Sunglasses, college basketball, girls nights, ice cream, flip-flops, cheap margaritas, chinese take-out, karaoke, Central Park, jewelry from street vendors
DISLIKES: Red-eye flights, perfume, dumb passengers, the pervy 13 year old boy who lives on the fifth floor and always checks her out on the elevator
PHOBIAS: Plane crashes

soundtrack;
The Way You Make Me Feel - Michael Jackson
Hey pretty baby with the high heels on
You give me fever like I've never ever known
You're just a product of loveliness
I like the groove of your walk, your talk, your dress
I feel your fever from miles around
I'll pick you up in my car and we'll paint the town
Just kiss me baby and tell me twice
That you're the one for me

Give Me The Night - George Benson
Whenever dark has fallen
You know the spirit of the party
Starts to come alive
Until the day is dawning
You can throw out all your blues
And hit the city lights
Cause there's music in the air
And lots of loving everywhere
So give me the night
Just give me the night

Motown Song - Rod Stewart
Let's dance together just for tonight
Let's don't worry about the future or nothing else
Cause just like the music's saying, you gotta take chances
Go ahead, just do it, and trust yourself

There's a soul in the city
Watching over us, I swear
There's a soul in the city
There's a whole world waiting out there
